William Bowers’ ‘Soundtracks #2′ Cassette - Already dead tapes - 2011

William Bowers’ ‘Soundtracks #2′ Cassette
First of all, I'm in love with cover arts and package design the guys from Already Dead Tapes make for their cassettes. It's so minimally beautiful and tasty!
On this nice tape Mr. Bowers presents to us four lo-fi, concrete and even old avant-gard ambient tracks which end up with a fifth one - surprisingly more melodic and drone-based. Fragile and refrangible sound lines are accommodating some kind of  fleshy sun energy and put it lingeringly and caressingly in each skin pore of your body.
Good thing.
Buy it directly from Already dead tapes.

FWY! - CA 80's-90's, Brave Mysteries Cassette 2011

FWY! - CA 80's-90's Cassette

FWY! is a new project from Edmund Xavier (you can know him for his work on Teenage Panzerkorps material). Reddling volatile electronics occupy this fantastic tape. Each track sounds very melodic and... familiar.. not as though you have already heard something like this but as though you have stumbled across something that grimly reveals some essential images and objects from your patchy memory. This is music for thinking - firefanging skein of nerves, inner mental fibres producing a sort of virtual reality for life reconstruction. Each track is a tool, each track is a key, a graphic code to be put in man's genom thoroughly, thoughtfully though inexorably.
Highly recommended.

MERZBOW - JIGOKUHEN - LP, Important Records 2011

Thanks to D. for delivering me this great record.
MERZBOW - JIGOKUHEN - LP

Yo dudes, open your minds or may be you've already opened and I'm just catching up? The freakiest thing about this record (about Merzbow?) is that it's completely soothing. I was prepared to almost everything except this. Uncontrolled, emergent appeasement. Hah, it seems so fucking simple now - who said the world should be harsh, evil, dark, brutal with all its noisy, worrying and annoying movements, races and outbursts? It stays calm all the time. No ambitions, no prejudices. Kill each other, you bigots and I'll have my usual cup of tea.
It's tea time, guys!

DDb Interview Series (1008) - My dance The Skull

The new DDB interview serie is coming really soon.
In the meantime I want to share a recent Q&A session with absolutely the most intriguing (for me, of course) publishing house and tape label based in London. It is led by Marco and Bethania who were extremely kind to send me the following answers.
Enjoy!

1.How did My Dance the Skull appear? Let’s dig in a history!

MDTS: MDTS appeared in a dream. We got the call at dawn. Dogs were barking, cats were running across rooftops... and a horse took our thoughts to My Dance The Skull.
When we woke up we ate the dream and the sweet flavor of flutes and clarinets remained in our mouths.

2.If you allow me, I’ll blurt a secret. You’re planning to publish a book of poetry (with illustrations by artist who have already appeared in your catalogue). Are you going to start publishing verse or it will be rather an exemption?
MDTS: We want to publish written poetry from the very beginning. We have recently met some great poets through our dear friend and fantastic poet Matthew Wascovich and we are looking forward to publishing them all.
The book of poetry you mentioned has just been published. It’s called Fantastic Animals, the poems are by Matthew Wascovich himself with images by the artist Aleksandra Waliszewska.

3.What annoys you most?

MDTS: Our mouths full of sand that bury our cries still alive.

4.A huge bulk of MDTS items comes from Eastern artists. Does it somehow reflect your interests as a publisher?

MDTS: To be honest that has been a coincidence. We are definitely interested in Eastern artists, but not more or less than we are in Western artists.

5.What is that primordial thing that draws your attention in a piece of art or in a song? What makes you nod – “Yeh, I’ll put this stuff out!”?

MDTS: Art that can extract water from the desert. Art that screams humidity in a dry land.

6.Next question I will ask to every person in DDb interview series.
What have changed in independent music world with the developing and spreading of the Web?
Any positive improvements? Any negative repercussions?

MDTS: Oh man, we don’t know exactly what to answer to that. Can we skip the question? (Sorry )

7.In terms of geography, where do you get most of the orders from?

MDTS: Mainly Northern EU, US and Japan. But recently we have been getting more orders from Eastern EU as well.

8.You have done a great interview with Love Cult. Do you enjoy reading interviews? Coz’ I’m a crazy fan of interviews!

MDTS: Yeah, that’s a nice one, glad you enjoyed it. We do like interviews, definitely. We particularly love ‘The Conversation Series’, which is a beautiful collection of dialogues between the curator Hans-Ulrich Obrist and different artists - highly recommended.

9.What a dark, strange name you guys have for your label! Where did it come from?

MDTS: From a drawing by Marco.
(please have a look at the attachment)

Here is this drawing:

10.So, there are two of you doing magical things around images in tapes. Do you have some kind of ‘labor distribution’?

MDTS: Thank you. We do everything together, the two of us work as a team… brainstorming ideas, working on concepts, choosing images, design, etc.

11.When I was in London I was constantly catching myself on a thought that London’s tube smells a bit fishy? Is it true? Or I have some problem with my nostrils?
What transport do you prefer to use?

MDTS: hah! Not sure. There is a breath of alcohol in the tube every now and then, specially early in the morning or late at night. We travel to central London by overground though, which is way nicer than the tube. We get to see green leaves kissing grey industrial buildings, old bridges and abandoned car parks.

12.What’s next? I mean apart from the book of poetry?
Can you reveal more secret info about forthcoming stuff?

MDTS: The next Voice Studies are:
VS 03 - Kommissar Hjuler Und Frau/ Mama Baer;
VS 04 – Andrew Coltrane
+
Voice Studies from Thurston Moore, Sindre Bjerga, Architeutis Rex, Mag Resistance (Matthew Wascovich and Mark E. Miller), This is Yvonne Lovejoy (Seymour Glass) and Andrew Klimeyk.

And poetry books by Chris Yarmock and Lauren De Sa Naylor.

Thanks for your time!
MDTS: Thank you for your interest and enthusiasm J

The cyclist - Bending Brass - Cassette - Crash Symbols 2011

The cyclist - Bending Brass Cassette

One of the best cassettes this year. Fresh. Melodic. Truly experimental. Beautifully fast. Spellbindly deep. Freaky electronic. Rough, diverse, vigorous. Dramatic!!! (Third and fifth tracks blew my mind, I just do not know how to press Stop). You listen to this stuff and can feel your own skin, parts of your body severally. You can't move and you can't stay immovable. You urgently have to create other world where everything is possible to respond on these magical sounds adequately.
Faerie, thrilling material.
Grab it by any means from Crash Symbols!

sand circles - midnight crimes - Cassette Not Not Fun 2011

sand circles - midnight crimes Cassette

6 tracks full of lo-fi synth vibes and broken drum machines open up to you giving all the keys from all the doors in this world. Now you have to make a decision. Road movie melodies go on the radio while you\re passing by white castles and huge slow elephants. Their caballeros flourish hands and fire pink and yellow signal stars. Painty sound makes your moves thoughtless and spontaneous. Walking changes with flying but you do not notice this. You look. God, you love to look now.
This is amazing, absolutely fantastic!
Released by Not Not Fun.

Michael T Bullock - Eastern Realm, ~taqueOT 2011

Thanks to A. for sending me this one-track gem.

Michael T Bullock - Eastern Realm CD

M. Bullock is a dab hand at creating minimal and abstract sound that seems to easily reproduce and redevelop itself. Deep commutated and at times crooked vibes develop themselves and the external environment for their own activity. Off-color collage of sounds is firstly well pencilled and wrapped up in a wanton grotesque liquids but then it turns into a slow stream of pedant noise that forces you to dip your hands in  your own warm inside... Noise's valetry ring the bells...
Glyphic/diabolic work.
Buy from ~taqueOT

Femminielli / Araignée – Chauffer/Silvia

Here's an amazing split between two projects led by one person - Bernardino Femminielli.

Femminielli / Araignée – Chauffer/Silvia 7''

Minimally designed 7'' contains three 5-minute tracks. Rheo synth melodies show you the images from the past. Surgeless drum machine and sedate, sharply circumscribed vocals unite with analogue electronics to go on the Crusade on the S. Lem's Solaris.
Simply beautiful. Highly recommended.

INNERCITY - BACKWORLD LP, Release the bats - Ikuisuus 2011

At long last I received this great 12 inch. So what is it? Sound by Belgian master Innersity put out by two amazing labels: Release the bats and Ikuisuus.

INNERCITY - BACKWORLD LP

Centuries come and go alternately. Day turns into night. Night turns into day. The land blenches feeling the tenacity of the water. Water changes its color and courses. There is a man somewhere in the centre of these nature's chores. He sits in a room and holds a glass of alcohol. He's looking at a woman. That man does not have time to feel so many things. The time does not have time to provide him this time. The world shrivels and diminishes. It turns into a coin. The man sits in a room. He spins a coin.
Beautiful music! It's fucking gorgeous stuff! Slow slightly vibrating dramatic waves pack the brain with unstable fog and subtilize the sight.
Buy this fantastic LP either from Release the bats or Ikuisuus or from their distributors.

SVETLANA THE ANTHROPOLOGIST / ETHEREAL DOOM COSMONAUT “PUNK GREGOR” - steak au zoo 2011

Thanks to Saphy for sending this material.
SVETLANA THE ANTHROPOLOGIST / ETHEREAL DOOM COSMONAUT “PUNK GREGOR” Cassette

I woke up this morning with no intention to listen to any music, nor to listen to any sounds at all. I just wanted to keep the room quiet. After about half an hour I capitulated and turned on this amazing record yet again.
7 beautiful spontaneous handcrafted folk stories built up on an abstract material fulfilled the apartment and I thought they did fill the world around me. Arrhythmic synth/electronic sketches were somehow humidifying dry impermeable guitar chords. Thin soulful vocals made me feel pleasant jimjams. Last two tracks - more drone and electronic - kicked off all the thoughts out of my head as they always did for the last weeks. This is a very good work, guys! Excellent!

KNOX MITCHELL - OPEN AND CLOSE WORKS Cassette - Beartown Records

One more tape from Beartown Records:
KNOX MITCHELL - OPEN AND CLOSE WORKS Cassette

This one will show the essential things. It will give you an idea of how the planet thinks. Inner candent streams and mighty movements of unknown ettles try to provide you with a cadre of sound signs which have to be deciphered to be engaged in communication with the very Earth core. Pleasant and pleasing noise troops perform the planet's orders. This is the sound of nature. This is the sound of life itself. This is the sound of time.
